* Deal properly with the user enabling any optional/addon kernel modules. Eric Hameleers2016-06-151-17/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | When the user loads a non-system squashfs module (for instance from the optional or addons subdirectories) and this contains kernel modules, then the kernel must be made aware using a "depmod -a" call. The previous implementation did this at the end of rc.local but that was too late in the boot process: the kernel needs to be aware of the new modules straight from the start, so that udev can enable the hardware which is supported by these new kernel drivers on time. So the depmod call was moved to the live init script (inside the initrd).
* On 32bit, use the non-SMP kernel by default. Eric Hameleers2016-06-101-2/+2
| | | | | You can define SMP32="YES" in the script or in its .conf file, if you want your Live ISO to boot the 32bit SMP kernel instead.
* VERSION bump to 1.0.2. Eric Hameleers2016-06-031-1/+1
|
* Add the 'live' user account to additonal groups "dialout,games,disk". Eric Hameleers2016-06-031-1/+1
| | | | | | The "dialout" group is required for working with 3G USB modems and ppp connections. If the user wants to play UNIX games, then the "games" group membership is needed. And "disk" group was added for good measure.
* XFCE: do not copy optional/ or addons/ content into the XFCE ISO. Eric Hameleers2016-05-291-8/+11
| | | | | | | | We need to maintain strict size requirements to keep the maximum size of the XFCE ISO below 737.280.000 bytes (703 MB) so that it fits on CDROM. You can always add optional/addons modules later if you create a USB Live medium out of the ISO.
* Some cosmetic cleanups. Eric Hameleers2016-05-291-9/+8

* make_slackware_live.sh: add "-X" switch to generate the ISO with xorriso. Eric Hameleers2016-05-291-26/+58
| | | | | | For some people, an ISO generated with xorriso instead of using mkisofs/isohybrid is more compatible with other tools or hardware. You need to install xorriso separately, it is not included with Slackware.
* VERSION bump to 1.0.1. Eric Hameleers2016-05-281-1/+1

* XFCE: take into account that the 32bit ISO does not contain a SMP kernel. Eric Hameleers2016-05-271-1/+5
| | | | | | | | | In order to successfully generate a 32bit ISO of the small XFCE variant, the variable SMP32 needs to be set to "NO" because the package for the SMP kernel will not be added (due to size constraints). Example commandline to achieve this: SMP32=NO ./make_slackware_live.sh -d XFCE -a i586
* slackpkg+: my package repository is no longer hosted on taper but on bear. Eric Hameleers2016-05-191-3/+3
| | | | | The URLs mentioning 'taper' instead of 'bear' will still work because the webserver on taper will do automatic redirection to bear.
* Slackware Live Edition: version 1.0.0.1.0.0 Eric Hameleers2016-05-171-1/+1
| | | | I think this 'liveslak' product is in a pretty stable state now.
* Call 'depmod' when a loaded optional/addon contains kernel modules. Eric Hameleers2016-05-171-3/+17
|
* Fix logic errors in 'if' statements when looking for wildcard files. Eric Hameleers2016-05-171-3/+3
|
* Disable the SSH daemon by default and use a tweak to start it on demand. Eric Hameleers2016-05-171-1/+2
| | | | | | | | | | The passwords for users 'live' and 'root' are easy to guess. When you use the Slackware Live Edition on a public network, you do not want people to use an exposed SSH login. If you still want to have the SSH daemon enabled on boot, use the 'tweak' boot parameter and provide a 'ssh' value as follows: "tweak=ssh" This can be combined with other tweaks of course, all comma-separated.
* Bump VERSION to 0.9.1. Eric Hameleers2016-05-131-1/+1
|
* Fixes for the broken 'load/noload' boot parameters and rootcopy location. Eric Hameleers2016-05-121-1/+1
| | | | Provided by GigglesUK, thanks.
* Slackware Live Edition: version 0.9.0.0.9.0 Eric Hameleers2016-05-051-1/+1
| | | | And it is ready for a stable 1.0.0 version if no further bugs are uncovered.
* Add PXE server infrastructure. Eric Hameleers2016-05-051-0/+19
| | | | | See the README.txt for instructions on how to use the 'pxeserver' script and what it can do for you.
* Silence one "cd -". Eric Hameleers2016-05-051-1/+1
|
* Update the 'timeconfig' script in make_slackware_live.sh, not in liveinit. Eric Hameleers2016-04-291-0/+9
|
* Do not specify heads/sectors when calling "isohybrid -u". Eric Hameleers2016-04-271-17/+1
| | | | | | | | | | The resulting ISO will boot on real hardware as well as in virtualizers like QEMU, VirtualBox and VMWare Player, despite the warning shown by isohybrid that the ISO has more than 1024 cilynders and not all BIOSes will be able to boot it. Specifying sectors/heads to stay "standard compliant" will generate ISO files that fail to boot in VirtualBox if the ISO filesize is larger than roughly 1 GB, spitting out the error "VERR_NOT_SUPPORTED".
* Deal with custom timezones (non-UTC) in KDE4 and PLASMA5. Eric Hameleers2016-04-271-0/+19
|
* make_slackware_live.sh: accept custom ISO filename without full pathname. Eric Hameleers2016-04-241-3/+3
|
* Do not bail out if there are no X apps in the ISO. Eric Hameleers2016-04-221-1/+3
|
* make_slackware_live.sh: add parameter to specify custom ISO name. Eric Hameleers2016-04-221-9/+16
| | | | | New parameter: -O outfile => Full path to a custom filename for the ISO.
* Allow CONFFILE to be specified as an environment variable. Eric Hameleers2016-04-211-1/+1
|
* make_slackware_live.sh: fixes for kernel detection & selection on 32bit arch. Eric Hameleers2016-04-201-8/+26
|

|
* make_slackware_live.sh: also add dependencies of network modules to initrd. Eric Hameleers2016-04-191-2/+27
|
* Add a post-install customization hook to 'setup2hd'. Eric Hameleers2016-04-171-0/+23
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | A new file 'setup2hd.local' has been added to the liveslak sources. If you do not touch that one, it will be copied to: /usr/share/${LIVEMAIN}/setup2hd.$DISTRO.sample and serve as just that, a sample script. If on the other hand you rename the file to 'setup2hd.$DISTRO' before generating your ISO image ($DISTRO being the name of your own distro, like 'CINELIVE'), then this file will be installed in the ISO as /usr/share/${LIVEMAIN}/setup2hd.$DISTRO and this will be sourced by 'setup2hd' providing you a custom post-install customization hook for your own Live distro. Usage instructions are inside 'setup2hd.local'.
* Use XZ compression for the initrd instead of GZIP. Eric Hameleers2016-04-131-7/+27
| | | | | | | | | | | | | This shrinks the initrd back from 22 to 17 MB in size. Also, a redundant copy of the initrd was removed from the '0000-slackware_boot' module, reducing the ISO size with an additional 17 MB. These two modifications compensate for the increased size due to addition of network modules and firmware (which are needed for network boot). Goal reached: the XFCE ISO still fits on CDROM media.
* Add NFS root support. Eric Hameleers2016-04-131-1/+36
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | It is now possible to PXE-boot the Slackware Live Edition. Extract the content of the ISO to (for instance) a new directory called 'slackware-live' below your TFTP server's /tftproot directory and then add lines like this to your pxelinux.cfg/default file: label liveslak kernel slackware-live/boot/generic append initrd=slackware-live/boot/initrd.img load_ramdisk=1 prompt_ramdisk=0 rw printk.time=0 kbd=us tz=Europe/Amsterdam locale=us_EN.utf8 nfsroot=192.168.0.1:/tftpboot/slackware-live hostname=pxelive Two new boot parameters have been added to support a NFS root: * nfsroot => mandatory parameter defines the IP address of the NFS server and the path to the extracted content of Slackware Live Edition. * nic => parameter defining the driver for the network card (optional and usually not needed because UDEV will figure out the driver for you), the interface name (optional), the IP configuration method (static IP or DHCP), and in case of a static IP, the required parameters ipaddress, netmask and an optional gateway. Note that the 'nic' parameter is optional if you have a DHCP server in your LAN: Slackware Live will figure out what the interface name is. Syntax of these parameters: nfsroot=ip.ad.dr.ess:/path/to/liveslak nic=<driver>:<interface>:<dhcp|static>[:ipaddr:netmask[:gateway]] Example use of these parameters: nfsroot=192.168.1.1:/tftproot/slackware-live nic=auto:eth0:static:10.0.0.21:24: nic=:eth1:static:192.168.1.6:255.255.255.248:192.168.1.1
* Umount LIVE_ROOTDIR's sub-mounts properly on emergency cleanup. Eric Hameleers2016-04-121-0/+3

* Fix the 'setup2hd' script's method of Live content installation. Eric Hameleers2016-03-291-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | In the original version of the script, the squashfs modules' contents would be extracted one after the other. However this disregards any package or file deletions inbetween modules. As a result, e.g. a PLASMA5 installation to disk using 'setup2hd' would leave several artefacts in removed_scripts and removed_packages and probably in other locations too. The overlay is now constructed somewhat differently, so that 'setup2hd' can access the full read-only filesystem properly; it will copy this content to the harddisk using rsync. A progress indicator will show the stats of files that are actually being transferred. At the same time, the 'setup2hd' script's language settings are now hard-coded by setting 'LC_ALL' and LANG to "C". Slackware's setup scripts parse command output and expect english texts there, but when you selected a different language when booting your Live OS, this would confuse e.g. 'liloconfig' to the extent that it failed to find the Linux partitions.
* Fix a bug in the program flow related to CONSFONT. Eric Hameleers2016-03-231-6/+7
| | | | | If the predefined console font (CONSFONT variable) was not found on the system, the make_slackware_live.sh script would abort with an error.
* Add support for 32-bit UEFI boot (disabled by default). Eric Hameleers2016-03-181-42/+67
| | | | | | | | | | | This requires functionality in grub which is currently not enabled in Slackware's grub package. If you want a 32-bit Live ISO that boots on UEFI computers, you need to recompile Slackware's grub with the patch for grub.SlackBuild which you can find in the ./patches subdirectory. Then you need to set the variable "EFI32" to "YES" in the 'make_slackware_live.sh' script and (re-)generate your 32-bit ISO. The resulting 32-bit Live ISO will be UEFI-bootable.
* New parameters to specify Slackware version and architecture. Eric Hameleers2016-03-181-26/+42
| | | | | | | | | The 'make_slackware_live.sh' script now has two extra parameters: -a arch Specify machine architecture (default: 'x86_64'). Use i586 for a 32bit ISO, x86_64 for 64bit. -z version Specify the Slackware version (default: 'current').
* Further expand the use of DISTRO variable to customize the Live ISO. Eric Hameleers2016-03-151-3/+18

* Slackware Live Edition: version 0.7.0.0.7.0 Eric Hameleers2016-03-151-1/+1
|
* Use the right variable to access official Slackware READMEs and other docs. Eric Hameleers2016-03-151-2/+2
|
* Use internal variable DISTRO=slackware. Eric Hameleers2016-03-101-22/+25

* Only add graphics drivers module matching the Linux kernel in the Live ISO. Eric Hameleers2016-03-091-3/+3
|
* Remove the /SLACKWARELIVE marker file from the filesystem root. Eric Hameleers2016-03-031-0/+1
| | | | | After installation to harddisk using the 'setup2hd' script, this marker file is a Live OS left over and will only cause confusion.
* Use correct grep command to find unique package name. Eric Hameleers2016-02-281-3/+21
| | | | | The grep command used so far would find "vim-gvim" when searching for "vim" because it did not try to match from the beginning of the string.
* Determine KGEN properly so that it works for 32-bit Slackware as well. Eric Hameleers2016-02-271-3/+3
| | | | Thanks to SangDae YU for pointing it out.
* Better safe than sorry. Eric Hameleers2016-02-271-1/+1
